For many years dentistry and medicine have previously been considered separate entities. In recent years, more studies and research have revealed links between oral health and general whole-body systemic health.
With previously confirmed links between oral health and diabetes, cardiovascular health, dementia and respiratory disease further research has even suggested that those with chronic gum disease may be at increased risk of COVID-19.
With all of this evidence that has come to light, it is more evident that good oral health is imperative to our overall health and quality of life. Not to mention our mouth is indispensable to helping us with eating, speaking and smiling too!
Visiting your dentist and hygienist regularly is an essential part of looking after your oral health. Each person’s oral health needs are different so some people can visit the dentist once a year, along with the hygienist. Others may need to be seen as frequently as every 3 months. Your needs will be assessed by one of our clinicians.
Regular check-ups with your Dentist will include- checking for tooth decay, tooth wear, oral cancer screening and a review of your gum health.
At Burgate Dental Practice & Implant Centre; working alongside the Dentist is the Hygienist. Along with a secondary oral cancer screen, the Hygienist will also be able to assess gum health, clean your teeth, advise, educate and tailor your oral health care regime to ensure your oral health remains as good as possible, whilst keeping your teeth looking and feeling amazing.
All of these steps combined will help you achieve good oral health and in turn help towards achieving good overall health.
